#15. That Cross-Processed look

Take a few years of a photograph and give it that nostalgic colour shift.

I was looking for a technique that could play on the colours of this beach scene I took in Rio, and give some warmth and context to the photo. As with many techniques featured on this site, Cross-Processing has its roots in traditional film technique and uses colour shifts to create an aged look.

I used the step by step tutorial from Photoshop Fine Art Effects Cookbook which has been reprinted by Photoshopsupport.com. It's easy to follow and doesn't give an exaggerated look that is often associated with the technique.

Conclusion
While the cross-processed look is very popular and frequently reproduced in digital - particularly in advertising, it's popular because the effect is great at giving an emotive character to photo that can be suitable for a wide range of subject matter.

About The Photo
One of the popular beach activities for kids around the beaches of Rio, Brazil.
