ABOUT NORTH KOREA
North Korea (officially Democratic People's Republic of Korea or DPRK) is a country in East Asia. It occupies the northern half of the Korean Peninsula that lies between Korea Bay and the East Sea, also called the Sea of Japan. It borders China to the north, Russia to the northeast and South Korea to the south.
Tourist travel to North Korea is only possible as part of a guided tour. Independent travel is not permitted. If you are not prepared to accept limitations on your movements and behavior, you should not travel to the DPRK at the present time. On the other hand, travel in the DPRK is, if nothing else, a unique experience.

Pyongyang, the capital city of North Korea, offers a unique glimpse into one of the world's most isolated nations, combining historical and cultural landmarks with its distinct socialist architecture. Visitors can explore the towering Juche Tower, a symbol of the country's guiding philosophy, and pay respects at the Mansudae Grand Monument, featuring statues of the country's former leaders. The Korean War Museum provides insight into the country's past, while the Pyongyang Metro, one of the deepest in the world, offers a fascinating ride beneath the city. Additionally, the Arch of Triumph and the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun are notable sites that reflect the city's historical and political significance.
The Korean Demilitarized Zone is a strip of land running across the Korean Peninsula that serves as a buffer zone between North and South Korea which runs along the 38th parallel north. The DMZ cuts the Korean Peninsula roughly in half, crossing the 38th parallel on an angle, with the west end of the DMZ lying south of the parallel and the east end lying north of it.
