D- Drum. A book set in the southern US during the mid 1800's. It is a brutal book about slavery and is quite a difficult read but I think it's important to not hide the truth. I watched the film a couple of weeks ago and that did the usual film thing, left huge chunks of the story out and twisted what was left. The book gets **** but the film ony **
E- Everyone Knows Your Mother Is A Witch. Very weird story apparently based on true events. What I didn't like was that it was witten from first person perspective but didn't say which person and it jumped about a lot. It became very confusing *
F-
G- The Greatest Show Of All Time. Written by Professor Richard Dawkins and outlines the proof for evolution. Very good book *****
H-
I- In Cold Blood- Truman Capote. This book told the chilling true story of two disturbed young men who broke into a farmhouse thinking the people who owned it were rich. During the course of the evening they killed all four of them ***
J- Japanes Lover- Isabelle Allende. Really boring book with completely unlikeable main characters *
K-
L- The Lady Of The Rivers. This is a kindof docu-drama. The people in it all existed and the events really happened. Phillippa Gregory writes about the strong women in history and this book again focuses on those conventional history books sideline ****
M- The Mustee. Another Falconhurst book about a cotton plantation in the southern United States in the 1800's. These books are almost a learning experience teaching about the horrors of the slave trade
N- Neverwhere. Very good book. There is 2 London's slightly out of sinc with each other and the main character learns to go between them both ****
O-The Origins Of The Universe. A factual book which I found really interesting. Physics isn't really my thing so I probably didn't completely understand it but I enjoyed learning about the first few milliseconds of the universe ***
P-
Q-
R- The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists. Very good book about the problems faced by the working classes. Set in 1903 but the problems are still going on today ****
S- Stephen and Matilda. A book about the civil war in England which went from 1135 when Henry I died until King Stephen died in 1154 ***
T- Talking With Serial Killers by Christopher Berry-Dee. A really good book, quite chilling in it's telling of the real life stories of these people *****
U-
V-
W- Wild Swans by Jung Chang. An autobiography about growing up in communist China. This book was a real eye opener *****
