Indiana is a U.S. state, admitted to the Union as the 19 on December 11, 1816. It is located in the Midwestern United States and Great Lakes Region, and with approximately 6.3 million residents, is ranked 16 in population and 17 in population density. Indiana is ranked 38 in land area, and is the smallest state in the continental US west of the Appalachian Mountains. Its capital and largest city is Indianapolis, the second largest of any state capital.

Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is a U.S. National Lakeshore located in northwest Indiana and managed by the National Park Service. It was authorized by Congress in 1966. The national lakeshore runs for nearly 25 miles (40 km) along the southern shore of Lake Michigan, from Gary, Indiana, on the west to Michigan City, Indiana on the east. The park contains approximately 15,000 acres (6,100 ha).
Brown County State Park is an Indiana state park on 15,696 acres (63.52 km) near Nashville in Brown County, Indiana in the United States. The park opened to the public in 1929, and is Indiana's largest state park. It was the most visited Indiana State Park in 2008 with more than 1.3 million visitors per year. The museum, which underwent a $74 million expansion in 2005, is located on a 152-acre (0.62 km) campus on the near northwest area outside downtown Indianapolis, northwest of Crown Hill Cemetery. The Indianapolis Museum of Art is the ninth oldest and eighth largest encyclopedic art museum in the United States.

The Indiana State Fair is an annual fair held in Indianapolis, Indiana, usually in the month of August. The first fair was held in 1881 and the 2009 fair had the highest number of attendees at 973,902. The state fair buildings and grounds are used for a variety of other shows when the fair is not being held. The largest building at the fairgrounds is the Pepsi Coliseum, formerly known as the Indiana State Fair Coliseum, where the Indiana Ice usually play.
